On Friday, October 19th, 2007, during a high school football game Morgan took a hit, that fractured his C5 Vertebrae. His team mates encouraged him to get up, and Morgan said, "I'm trying", unable to move. Later he would comment in the hospital that it felt like he was floating. Emergency medical technicians took the field within moments and transported him to the Rolla hospital. It was determined quickly that Morgan needed to be transported by helicopter to St. Louis Children's Hospital. The doctors in St. Louis would later say that the doctors, nurses and EMT's did everything, absolutely right, the whole time. Thank you guys. (and gals)
Once in St. Louis, Morgan had to undergo approximately 8 hours of surgery. They removed his C5 and fused his spine around the injury with a titanium plate, screws and a piece of bone from his hip.
When he awoke from surgery, he was grumpy, to say the least, and scared.
